Urgent Manhunt: Four Prisoners Escape from Sadiya District Jail
In a bold pre-dawn escape, four inmates broke out of Sadiya District Jail in the Tinsukia district of Assam on Wednesday, prompting authorities to initiate a large-scale manhunt. Officials characterized the incident as a major security breach at the high-security facility, raising alarms about the effectiveness of current safety protocols.
According to senior officials, the escape was meticulously planned, with the prisoners climbing over the prison’s high perimeter walls early in the morning. They allegedly constructed a makeshift rope by knotting together several pieces of cloth, which allowed them to scale the wall and vanish into the surrounding area.
The escapees have been identified as Nabin Buragohain, Amlanjyoti Chetia, Sasadhar Deori, and Huntu Sonowal. Sadiya Senior Superintendent of Police Jagadish Das confirmed the incident, stating that the jailer alerted him during morning rounds. “The jailer informed me that four prisoners had managed to flee. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the breach has been initiated, and a massive search operation is currently underway,” Das noted. He added that all nearby police stations have been notified to help track and apprehend the fugitives.
Authorities have also established checkpoints at various exit points across Tinsukia to prevent the escapees from crossing into other districts or states. While the police are following specific leads, no arrests have yet been made. An internal investigation is expected to determine if negligence on the part of the jail staff played a role in the escape.
The incident occurred in the Chapakhowa area, highlighting serious lapses in security at the facility. With the search ongoing, police have urged local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the vicinity.
