
Excitement Builds as Captain Jintu Gogoi Trophy Reaches Digboi for 21st Edition
The Indian Army on Saturday, January 31, presented the trophy for the prestigious Captain Jintu Gogoi Vir Chakra Football Tournament at Oil Valley School in Digboi, marking the lead-up to the 21st edition of the event set to commence on February 4. This tournament, which commemorates the bravery of Captain Jintu Gogoi, will take place from February 4 to February 14 across three venues: Nehru Stadium in Duliajan, Jubilee Ground in Digboi, and Tingrai Football Stadium. It aims to unite teams and football fans from various parts of the region.
The trophy’s arrival ceremony featured Colonel Shivek Sharma, Commanding Officer of the Digboi Battalion, as the chief guest. The gathering included school officials, students, and Army personnel, highlighting the strong ties between the tournament, the armed forces, and the local community. Trilok Gupta, Chairman of Oil Valley School, along with teachers and students, warmly welcomed the Army representatives during the event.
Students at Oil Valley School participated in the ceremony by performing a march past, singing patriotic songs, and showcasing cultural dances and traditional performances. This lively display not only honored Captain Jintu Gogoi’s legacy as a Vir Chakra awardee but also engaged the audience, who responded enthusiastically to the performances.
The Captain Jintu Gogoi Vir Chakra Football Tournament is recognized as one of the major sporting events in Upper Assam. It not only celebrates the valor and sacrifice of the decorated Army officer but also promotes football and encourages youth involvement in the region.
