Assam Rifles personnel seized a significant consignment of smuggled heroin valued at Rs 15.42 crore during an operation in the Champhai district of Mizoram, near the India-Myanmar border, as reported by officials on January 22. Acting on specific intelligence regarding narcotics trafficking, the troops established a mobile check post at Diltlang village on January 20, according to a defense spokesperson.
During the operation, they intercepted a suspicious two-wheeler and discovered 2 kg of heroin being illegally transported. Although two individuals involved in the smuggling attempt fled the scene, they were later apprehended. In addition, officials seized a mobile phone belonging to the alleged drug peddlers.
The heroin and the mobile phone have been handed over to local police authorities for further investigation and subsequent legal action, as stated by officials. This seizure highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region and the proactive measures being taken by security forces.
