Urgent Warning: Third-Party Exploitation of Kokrajhar Situation Unveiled
Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Hagrama Mohilary expressed his concern on January 20 over a recent incident in Kokrajhar, labeling it as unfortunate. He called for all sections of society to exercise peace and restraint. Mohilary indicated the unrest was rooted in a misunderstanding and warned that external elements were trying to take advantage of the situation to escalate tensions.
He emphasized that such manipulative efforts would not be tolerated and highlighted the necessity for a collective responsibility to avoid further deterioration. Stressing the importance of law and order, he urged the administration to take strict and decisive action against anyone disrupting peace.
In his appeal for calm, Mohilary urged the public to refrain from violence and spread of rumors, and to collaborate with authorities to restore normalcy in the area.
Meanwhile, the Kokrajhar Police have detained 18 individuals in connection with a mob lynching incident at Karigaon. The police have stated that these detentions follow preliminary evidence and witness statements gathered during the ongoing investigation.
Those detained include Satyanath Tudu (47), Gudrai Kisku (30), Guni Mardi (28), Pawan Hembrom (22), Mangal Murmu (20), Raju Baski (26), Soniram Murmu (30), Robin Hembrom (45), Soban Mardi (35), Robin Soren (25), Rabi Hasda (38), Basileos Soren (23), Sabah Murmu (60), Nicolas Soren (35), Some Hembrom (18), Sebas Hembrom (44), Sunil Tudu (35), and Muntu Murmu (25).
The police clarified that these detentions are part of a broader strategy aimed at identifying all individuals implicated in the violent incident, which has created widespread tension in the community. They confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and more arrests could occur as additional evidence is uncovered.
Further legal actions are being pursued in accordance with the law, with a commitment from police officials to ensure accountability and restore normalcy in Karigaon and surrounding areas.
