Atishi Strongly Denies Derogatory Remarks: A Passionate Defense Against Sikh Guru Allegations!

Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi, who also serves as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly, addressed a breach of privilege notice issued to her regarding comments allegedly deemed disrespectful towards Sikh gurus. In a letter released on Monday, Atishi firmly stated, “I have never made any derogatory remark against Sikh gurus, either in the House on January 6, 2026, or at any other time in my life,” categorically denying the allegations.

Atishi emphasized her deep personal values and faith, noting that her reverence for Sikh gurus stems from her upbringing rather than political expediency. “The Sikh gurus, particularly Guru Tegh Bahadurji, embody the highest ideals of sacrifice, courage, and the protection of human dignity. I am morally incapable of uttering anything that could be interpreted as disrespectful,” she wrote.

The controversy centers around comments Atishi reportedly made in the Assembly, which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized. Law Minister Kapil Mishra posted a video of the incident on social media platform X, which claims that the video has been manipulated, a point echoed by the Punjab Police who have labeled it doctored. Amid this escalating political tension, Atishi has requested unedited footage of the Assembly proceedings to provide clarity.

Additionally, Atishi has expressed concern over her lack of communication from Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta regarding her attendance for further clarification on the matter. In her correspondence, she also requested copies of any written communication related to the notice issued against her.

The BJP has yet to respond to Atishi’s claims or requests for further dialogue. While the political standoff continues, Atishi has taken the opportunity to advocate for public safety in Delhi. She has reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking a meeting to discuss what she refers to as the “deteriorating” law and order situation in the capital. In her message, Atishi highlighted complaints about police delays, inaction, and a general lack of accountability despite the Delhi Police operating under the Union Home Ministry.

As tensions rise between AAP and BJP over the alleged remarks and the accompanying political fallout, this situation reflects the broader concerns about governance and public safety in Delhi. Atishi’s request for transparency and accountability is likely to resonate with citizens facing rising issues of crime and insecurity in the capital.

As the story unfolds, the ramifications of these allegations and the resulting political discourse will continue to be a focal point for both parties in the lead-up to further legislative activities in the Assembly. The urgency of Atishi’s call for police accountability and clarity on her statements adds a dynamic layer to the ongoing interpretations and implications of this controversy.

This ongoing saga underscores the complex interplay of politics, faith, and public safety that defines the current landscape of Delhi’s political discourse.
