Cold Wave Alert: Delhi at 0°C; Snowfall Forecast for Northern States
Cold wave conditions are intensifying in Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) as of Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow alert for dense fog today, with forecasts predicting that temperatures could drop to as low as 3 degrees Celsius. A thick fog has enveloped parts of North India, significantly reducing visibility in the early hours. This severe cold wave is expected to continue across North India, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
In Delhi, the IMD’s Yellow alert highlights the dense fog expected during Thursday morning. The maximum temperature is predicted to remain between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius, while the minimum could reach 3 degrees Celsius. The weather department indicates that the skies are likely to be clear, with light mist anticipated overnight. However, starting from Friday, nighttime temperatures are projected to rise, with estimates between 6 and 10 degrees Celsius. By January 20, maximum temperatures could range from 22 to 25 degrees Celsius.
Visual reports from Moti Bagh show a thick layer of fog covering the national capital, as captured in recent images shared on social media.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take precautions given the ongoing cold wave and dense fog affecting visibility.
