Iran Protests Live: Tehran Army Commits to Protect National Interests

Protests in Iran have reached a critical stage, fueled by a struggling economy and rising prices, transforming into widespread demands for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic. Originally ignited in Tehran’s bazaars due to soaring food costs, the unrest has now spread to all 31 provinces, mobilizing tens of thousands despite an increasing security crackdown and a sweeping internet blackout.

As tensions escalate, the Iranian army has promised to protect the nation’s interests and infrastructure, urging citizens to remain watchful against what it describes as “the enemy’s plots.” Meanwhile, reports indicate that at least 65 people have died and over 2,300 have been arrested, according to human rights groups. U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened severe repercussions if protesters are harmed, while Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accuses the demonstrators of serving foreign agendas, indicating a harsh response as the situation worsens.

Protests have entered their twelfth consecutive day, continuing even amid an internet and international phone blackout. The Human Rights Activists News Agency reports a significant casualty count, with demonstrators actively marching in major cities like Tehran and Mashhad, chanting against the regime. Khamenei’s statements have intensified, urging action against those he claims are working for foreign powers. Additionally, Iran’s judiciary chief has declared the intention to impose “maximum” penalties on participants of the protests.

Airlines, including Flydubai and Turkish Airlines, have cancelled flights to and from Iran amid growing international concern. European leaders have condemned the killings of protesters and called for restraint from government forces, which have labeled demonstrators as “terrorists,” heightening fears of a major crackdown.

Photos of women igniting cigarettes with images of Khamenei have gone viral, representing a new wave of defiance against the government. These protests are being reinforced by appeals from exiled crown prince Reza Pahlavi, who encourages the public to sustain protests nightly, gaining support across the nation.

Despite claims from Iranian officials that the national situation remains stable, the unrest appears far from over. Demonstrators are determined to continue amplifying their voices against a backdrop of economic hardship and government oppression, challenging the regime’s authority more openly than in the past.

As global responses mount, including statements of support for Iranian citizens from U.S. officials, the Iranian government continues to face pressure both domestically and internationally. The protests encapsulate a significant moment in Iranian history, marking one of the broadest movements against the government and exemplifying the populace’s frustration with longstanding issues of inflation and governance.
