Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has recently revealed the intriguing inspirations behind the names of his two children, showcasing a blend of pop culture, science, and gaming influences. In a post responding to Tesla Owners Silicon Valley on X, Musk elaborated on the meanings behind his twins’ names, offering insights into the notable figures and ideas that motivated his choices.
Musk’s son’s name, Strider Sekhar, draws from two distinct sources. The name “Strider” is inspired by Aragorn, a character from J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic series, The Lord of the Rings. In contrast, “Sekhar” honors the esteemed Indian-American astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1983 for his significant research on stellar evolution.
Additionally, Musk shared the backstory of his daughter’s name, Comet Azure, which comes from the realm of gaming. He mentioned, “Me with my son, Strider Sekhar (named after Aragorn & great Indian physicist Chandrasekhar) and daughter, Comet Azure, named after the most powerful spell in Elden Ring.”
The twins were born in November 2021 to Musk and Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, who has Indian heritage through her mother, Sharda Zilis, of Punjabi descent. Musk and Zilis also have two younger siblings: Arcadia, born in 2024, and Seldon Lycurgus, who arrived in March 2025.
