Experience the Magic of Nostalgia: Indulge in 1950s Glamour and Delectable South Indian Tapas at The Quarter!

Step into a captivating blend of the 1950s Madras at The Quarter, the cocktail-forward bar nestled in The Savera hotel. This establishment offers a refined experience, combining South Indian tapas with the elegance of yesteryears, enveloped in an opulent yet intimate atmosphere. The dim lighting and subtle music create a serene environment, inviting guests to savor their surroundings. Adorning the walls are miniature Premier Padminis and Ambassadors, showcasing a personal collection that adds to the charm.

Nivruti Reddy, a descendant of a legacy of entrepreneurs-her mother being the esteemed Nina Reddy-oversees The Quarter’s operations. With a vision to capture the city’s essence, Nivruti emphasizes, “It is not a themed bar. It is a quiet, comfortable place without jarring music, focusing on food and shared conversation.” The menu, designed to encourage sharing, features tapas, small plates, and mid-plates that highlight classic South Indian flavors.

The Quarter boasts a striking interior, draped in jade hues, complemented by a private dining area, Suite 101-the hotel’s first-ever suite. The ambiance fosters laughter and intimate conversations, setting the stage for culinary exploration. Guests can begin their experience with an intriguing vadumanga focaccia, served with a flavorful blend of gongura, garlic, and podi butter. The freshly baked focaccia comes from Savera’s renowned bakehouse. Accompaniments like lotus stem chips and sweet potato fries, seasoned in-house, are topped with a tantalizing hot honey glaze.

Nivruti stresses the importance of sharing portions, stating, “You don’t want to be stuck with one starter alone. This way, you try a variety and decide what you like.” The cocktail menu, inspired by Madras, aims to evoke nostalgic memories through innovative flavors. Highlights include the Biryani cocktail-a surprisingly delightful concoction featuring bourbon, biryani spices, and a molecular gastronomy twist with a raita garnish. Another drink, the Thenga Manga, blends rum with raw mango and coconut for a refreshing twist.

Adventurous guests should try The Quarter’s Guntur Accent, a spicy tequila-based cocktail infused with Guntur chilies and gongura pickle. Gin lovers will appreciate beverages like Amrutham and Mukkani, which incorporate local flavors with ingredients like jackfruit and Chettinad spices. To complement the drinks, guests can indulge in paruppu podi arancini, chicken 65 sliders, or Andhra rotti-a dish brimming with shredded meat and spices atop buttery bread.

For those venturing into the mid-plate offerings, the cloud mutta thokku-a creative take on eggs Benedict with fried bread and chili Hollandaise-deserves a mention. Additionally, the gilma biryani bowl features delectable chicken 65 pieces paired with pineapple jam, while the Nallampatti paneer satisfies vegetarian preferences with its rich Kongu special gravy, served with petite parottas.

Concluding the meal is a must-try Madras Coffee Cake, ensconced in brown paper and complemented by fluffy coffee cream. While the filter coffee cocktail appears appealing, its flavor falls short due to an overpowering clove result. A sweet escape can be found in a dessert inspired by beloved foreign chocolates, concocted with peanut, chocolate, coconut, and crunch.

With vibrant offerings and a welcoming atmosphere, The Quarter emerges as a prime destination for adults seeking delightful drinks and engaging conversations, free from the clamor of modern nightlife. Reservations are a must, with a typical meal for two costing around ₹2,500, including drinks. The Quarter welcomes patrons from 6 PM to midnight at The Savera, located on Dr. Radhakrishnan Road.
