JNU Students Ignite Controversy with Bold Slogans Against PM Modi and Shah: Political Reactions Unleashed – ‘Desh ke Dushman’ Claims Resonate!

Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has stirred controversy following the release of a purported video depicting students raising provocative slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. This protest coincided with the Supreme Court’s recent decision to deny bail to activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, who are implicated in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from various leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa condemned the slogans, labeling the protesters as “separatist people” and asserting that their actions undermine the country and its legal frameworks. “I strongly condemn this. If there will be protests in this country, even against the Supreme Court’s rulings, then what is left?” Sirsa stated. He further claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress party support these activists, suggesting a broader “conspiracy” against national integrity.

Another BJP leader, Kapil Mishra, referred to the protesting students as “desh ke dushman” or “country’s enemies.” He emphasized that their slogans disrespected not only the nation but also religious sentiments and the Supreme Court’s verdict. He expressed concern over the alleged support these protesters extend to individuals linked to terrorism and violence, interpreting their actions as frustration following the Supreme Court’s judgment.

In contrast, Congress leader Udit Raj came to the defense of the JNU students. He described their protest as a legitimate form of expressing dissent against the Supreme Court’s ruling, which he deemed unjust and discriminatory towards Khalid and Imam for their Muslim background. Raj stated, “There is outrage in JNU against the Supreme Court’s verdict in the 2020 Delhi Riots larger conspiracy case,” highlighting the perceived biases in legal treatment.

The contentious video footage was reportedly taken during a demonstration on Monday night at the JNU campus. Aditi Mishra, president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union, argued that the slogans raised were ideological and not targeted at individuals. “All of the slogans raised in the protest were ideological and do not attack anyone personally. They were not directed towards anyone,” she explained.

Despite the uproar, a senior police officer mentioned that no formal complaints regarding the slogans have been filed. The protest underscores a growing divide in public sentiment regarding judicial decisions and the treatment of dissent in India, particularly among students and opposition leaders.

As this situation continues to develop, it raises important questions about freedom of expression, the role of educational institutions in political discourse, and the tensions surrounding contemporary political events in India. The episode at JNU serves as a stark reminder of the complexities woven into the fabric of national identity and the ongoing struggles over public opinion and legal integrity in the country.
