Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has initiated a high-level inquiry into alleged irregularities surrounding the verification of work slips and registration of workers in the Haryana Labour Department. His directive comes in response to concerns raised earlier this week by Labour Minister Anil Vij. The committee is expected to deliver a comprehensive report to the government within one month.
While Vij announced he had requested an independent investigation via a letter to the Chief Minister, Saini clarified that no such correspondence has been received in his office.
A government spokesperson indicated that the Labour Department had begun its own review, with findings reported from 13 districts so far, while nine districts are still pending. The spokesperson noted that the department plans to submit a thorough report after all districts have provided their data.
Saini’s response to the ongoing issue was prompt; he returned the file the following day, instructing the Labour Minister to compile a full report that includes accurate figures of financial losses incurred. However, the final report remains outstanding.
The situation primarily concerns construction workers and the benefits they receive under various Labour Department schemes. Allegations have emerged suggesting that some workers may have falsely claimed to have performed valid work, raising questions about their actual registrations as construction laborers. Given the gravity of these claims, the Chief Minister has assembled a high-level committee, chaired by Pankaj Aggarwal, IAS, with Rajiv Rattan, IAS, and Pankaj Nain, IPS, as members.
This committee is tasked with examining the matter thoroughly to identify any misconduct by officials or other parties involved. Additionally, it will propose corrective measures to prevent future occurrences of such issues.
The spokesperson confirmed that the committee will submit its findings within one month after reviewing all pertinent facts.
