Major Arms and Explosives Seized in Manipur: What You Need to Know
Security forces in Kakching district, Manipur, conducted an intelligence-led operation on December 31, recovering six firearms along with a significant cache of explosives and ammunition. According to police, the seized weapons included an M-16 rifle, an SLR, a single-barrel gun, and two single-barrel bolt-action rifles, in addition to a 7.65 mm pistol.
The cache of explosives was substantial, comprising ten grenades, four detonators, two arm rings, and an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing around 3 kg. Authorities also found an explosive shell, a 51 mm mortar bomb, six tear smoke shells, and 71 live rounds of ammunition. A quadcopter drone with accessories was also discovered at the site in the Wabagai Natekhong Turenmei area of the district.
Ongoing searches are taking place in fringe and vulnerable areas across multiple districts as part of the security operations aimed at curbing illegal arms storage and enhancing public safety. This operation underscores the authorities’ commitment to maintaining security amidst rising concerns over illegal armaments in the region.
