Tragic Hit-and-Run: Police Constable Killed, CCTV Footage Sought in Guwahati
A police constable was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident late Tuesday night at Panchgram in Assam’s Hailakandi district. The victim, identified as Sebak Dutta, was a resident of the Rongpur area in Silchar and was serving with the Border Branch of the Sribhumi district police.
According to police reports, Dutta was riding his motorcycle on the Panchgram–Dhaleswar bypass when a speeding SUV reportedly collided with him. The impact was severe enough to throw him from his bike, resulting in immediate death. Following the collision, the SUV fled the scene.
Authorities quickly responded to the scene after being notified and recovered the damaged motorcycle. Dutta’s body was subsequently transported to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
As of now, the vehicle involved in the incident has not yet been identified. Investigators are actively working to trace it by reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas. Sources revealed that Dutta was on his way to Silchar from his workplace in Sribhumi at the time of the accident.
