The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed on Thursday, December 18, that their investigation into the death of Zubeen Garg, a cherished cultural figure from Assam, is still active. This statement followed reports from Indian media suggesting that four individuals had been charged with murder related to the case.
On December 12, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam police charged four out of seven suspects with murder concerning the unexplained death of Zubeen Garg. He passed away under mysterious circumstances in Singapore on September 19 while attending the North East India Festival.
The SPF acknowledged the rumors surrounding Garg’s death and noted that Indian media reports indicated the SIT had issued murder charges. However, the Singapore authorities clarified that no foul play is suspected in Garg’s death at this stage of their investigation, in accordance with the Singapore Coroners Act 2010.
“Based on our investigations so far, the SPF does not suspect foul play,” the police stated. They added that once their investigation concludes, the findings will be presented to the State Coroner. A coroner’s inquiry is set to occur in January and February 2026, aiming to ascertain the cause and circumstances surrounding Garg’s death. The results of this inquiry will be made public after its completion.
The SPF reiterated its commitment to conducting a thorough and professional investigation and requested patience and understanding from all parties involved. They also urged the public to refrain from speculation and to avoid circulating unverified information.
