Championing Merit Over Politics: A New Era in Sports Leadership
Agartala, December 15, 2025: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha praised Divyangjan athletes today, highlighting them as exemplary figures of courage, confidence, and resilience. He asserted that physical limitations should never constrain talent or success while inaugurating the Khelo Tripura Para Games-2025 at the Badarghat Dashrath Dev Sports Complex.
Dr. Saha emphasized that being Divyang does not pose a barrier to achievement. He noted that having a strong mindset, a steadfast goal, and focus are essential for success. “Regular practice is crucial for an athlete to achieve their goals. Sports transcend caste, religion, and color, acting as a unifying force among us. They not only enhance physical abilities but also foster mental fortitude, discipline, and self-esteem. The involvement of para athletes in this competition will be vital in cultivating an inclusive mindset within society,” he stated.
The Chief Minister remarked on the state government’s commitment to creating a universal and inclusive sports environment through the ‘Khelo Tripura’ initiative, aligned with the ‘Khelo India’ program introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He underlined the government’s focus on improving training facilities, providing appropriate sports infrastructure, ensuring modern equipment, and offering financial assistance to para athletes.
Dr. Saha also declared that politics has no place in the current realm of sports in Tripura. “Merit must take precedence, which was often overlooked in the past. The current government understands the importance of valuing sports and respecting athletes. Life is filled with challenges; what matters is the ability to overcome them. Thus, physical limitations should not be considered obstacles,” he explained.
He further stated that confidence and concentration lead to success in sports, which also help athletes resist addiction by enhancing both physical and mental capabilities. The event was attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Secretary PK Chakraborty, Secretary Tapas Roy, Social Welfare and Social Education Department Director TK Das, Youth Affairs and Sports Department Director L Darlong, and Padma Shri awardee gymnast Dipa Karmakar, among others.
