Nagaland Launches E-Challan Service: A Landmark Move for Smart Governance
Dimapur: Nagaland’s motor vehicles department has officially launched the e-challan service in the state at the Dimapur district transport office, making it the 34th state in India to implement this system. The launch, aimed at enhancing digital governance and traffic management, was led by Robert Longchari, the Commissioner and Secretary of the transport department.
At the inauguration, Longchari acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the traffic police, home department, and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in facilitating the rollout of the e-challan platform in Nagaland. He emphasized that coordination among various departments is essential for the effective implementation and enforcement of this digital service.
Longchari highlighted the key advantages of the e-challan service, noting that it eliminates cash transactions and minimizes the potential for manipulation. He stated that this digital framework would improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability, while also providing citizens with a user-friendly experience through integrated technological enforcement.
He described the e-challan system as a major advancement towards safer roads, as it allows for the electronic detection, recording, and tracking of traffic violations. This initiative is expected to promote responsible driving behavior and enhance compliance with traffic regulations.
According to Lanusungkum Aier, senior technical director and state informatics officer at NIC, the e-challan system, which began in 2015, is now operational in 34 states across India, including Nagaland. The system replaces traditional paper challans with electronically generated fines for traffic rule violations.
