Nagaland Team Visits Tripura to Explore Transformative Renewable Energy
A 10-member delegation from the Department of New and Renewable Energy, Government of Nagaland, visited Tripura on June 23 and 24, 2026, to study the state’s renewable energy programmes with a special focus on the central PM-KUSUM scheme, which promotes solarisation of agricultural pumps and decentralised solar power for farmers.
The team was led by Adviser for New and Renewable Energy Er. Picto Shohe and included Secretary Linda Solo, Director Er. James Khala and other departmental officials.
During the two-day visit, the delegation inspected multiple projects implemented by the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA). These visits covered off-grid solar water-pumping systems, solarisation of existing grid-connected agricultural pumps, an 80-kWp grid-connected solar photovoltaic plant under a Virtual Net Metering arrangement (which allows shared solar credits across users), a community solar water-purification plant, solar high-mast and street lighting, a 500-kWp grid-connected solar PV plant at Tripura University developed under the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model (where a third party develops and operates the plant), a biogas plant at the Ramakrishna Mission Complex in Amtali, and a 100-kW solar installation at the Agartala Land Port.
At Sathdubai and Rangacherra gram panchayats, delegation members met local officials and beneficiaries to gather first-hand feedback on off-grid solar pumps, solar-powered irrigation systems and the Green Village initiative, including the functioning of the community solar purification unit.
The delegation held discussions with Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath to explore opportunities for enhanced inter-state cooperation in clean energy. A review meeting chaired by Power Department Secretary Abhishek Chandra, IAS, and attended by TREDA Director Debabrata Sukla Das and senior officials, focused on project implementation, policy measures, financing mechanisms and avenues for collaborative work between the states.
On the second day, the team met Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shyamal Das to discuss collaboration on renewable energy awareness, research, skill development and capacity building for the Northeast, and visited the university’s solar plant and the Ramakrishna Mission biogas facility.
The Nagaland delegation praised Tripura’s progress in sustainable irrigation, access to clean drinking water, rural electrification and community infrastructure, and noted the role of financial and technical support to beneficiaries. Officials said the visit is expected to strengthen cooperation between Tripura and Nagaland and help transfer innovative clean-energy solutions to Nagaland, supporting sustainable development and energy security in the Northeast.
