A significant gas leak at an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) pipeline in Assam’s Charaideo district has forced authorities into urgent action to avert a disaster, as natural gas continues to escape from the site despite their ongoing containment efforts. The leak, traced back to the Laiphaleng LP-1 manifold in the Bakata Patsaku Laiphaleng area, is suspected to have been caused by excessive pressure within the natural gas transport system. ONGC teams arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the breach, but by late Saturday, their attempts to plug the leak had not yet been successful.
Local administration officials and ONGC personnel have implemented monitoring measures around the affected area to deal with the uncontrolled gas release, which raises alarms about a potential catastrophic incident.
