Unstoppable UDF: The Heart-Pounding Victory Margins That Define Their Dominance
The United Democratic Front (UDF) achieved a significant victory in the Kochi Corporation elections, underscored by impressive vote margins. While ten UDF candidates surpassed the 1,000-vote mark, only two candidates from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and a single candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accomplished this feat. Notably, Albert Ambalathinkal from the Pachalam division emerged as the standout winner, securing the highest margin in the Corporation with 2,071 votes.
Following him were Riya Lawrence from Kathrikadavu, who netted a margin of 1,408 votes, and Antony Painumthara from Panampilly Nagar with 1,340. Other notable victories for the UDF included Fausia Muhammed (1,316) in Kalvathy, Jismi Jerald (1,249) in Vaduthala West, K.X. Francis (1,217) in Perumanoor, Deepak Joy (1,183) in Ayyappankkavu, and Joseph Sumeeth (1,133) in Thoppumpady.
Within the UDF, potential mayoral candidates are emerging, with Deepthy Mary Varghese from the Stadium division leading the charge at 1,110 votes, closely followed by Shiny Mathew (1,082) from Fort Kochi and V.K. Minimol (856) from Palarivattom. Conversely, the narrowest victory margin among UDF candidates was just 11 votes, achieved by Girly Robert in Karanakkodam, with other close races recorded by Nirmala Rajappan (20) in Gandhi Nagar and V.R. Sudheer (21) in Elamakkara South.
In the LDF camp, Ashwathy Joshy led with a noteworthy 1,855 votes in Kadebagham, accompanied by Sujatha Babu with 1,122 votes in Thazhuppu. P.J. Dasan secured the next biggest margin at 968 votes in Nazreth. Conversely, N.X. Likhitha faced a nail-biting finish with a slim margin of just three votes from Perumpadappu.
The BJP’s performance saw Pravitha Vijayakumar achieve the highest margin for her party, defeating former colleague Shyamala S. Prabhu in Cheralayi with 1,593 votes. Priya Prasanth followed with 800 votes in Amaravathy, while other BJP candidates, including Aswathy Gireesh (311) in Panayappilly and Sudha Dileepkumar (148) in Ernakulam Central, also secured seats.
As the dust settles from this decisive election, the UDF emerges with a clear mandate, positioning itself strongly within Kochi’s political landscape. The results not only reflect voter sentiments but also set the stage for the upcoming governance and policy direction in the Corporation. The implications of these outcomes will be closely monitored in the coming days as stakeholders from all parties assess their next steps in this dynamic political environment.
