Ensure a Safe Hajj: Choose Only Authorized Operators, Urges Kiren Rijiju
Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju has called on Indian Muslims planning to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage in 2026 to secure their bookings as early as possible. He specifically urged pilgrims to select only authorized Hajj Group Organisers (HGOs) or Private Tour Operators (PTOs) when making arrangements. This guidance comes via an official circular shared by the minister on X, which emphasizes important deadlines set by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the upcoming Hajj season.
The circular states that Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has established February 1, 2026, as the deadline for finalizing housing and service contracts for Hajj pilgrims. These contracts encompass critical logistical necessities, including accommodation and transportation, essential for a successful pilgrimage experience.
To comply with these timelines, the circular straightforwardly advises all prospective pilgrims traveling through private HGOs or PTOs to complete their bookings in advance. It highlights that timely bookings are essential for operators to fulfill procedural requirements and finalize contracts as specified by Saudi authorities.
“Pilgrims are advised to complete their booking formalities on or before January 15, 2026, to ensure the necessary housing and service contracts are finalized before the deadline,” the circular reads. Rijiju emphasized that this measure aims to facilitate a seamless experience for Indian pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey.
In addition, the circular encourages pilgrims to verify the registration status, quota allocation, and approval of the chosen HGO or PTO before making any payments. This precaution is vital to prevent potential fraud or logistical complications. Travelling through authorized operators is strongly recommended to ensure that pilgrims avoid any last-minute issues.
Each year, many Indian pilgrims embark on their Hajj journey with the assistance of private tour operators. The Ministry of Minority Affairs continues to stress the importance of early preparation and compliance with official guidelines to guarantee safe and organized arrangements for those undertaking this annual religious event.
