Sarbananda Sonowal Visits Tinsukia to Support Families After Anjaw Tragedy
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the grieving families in Tinsukia on Friday, December 12, who were affected by a tragic road accident in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district. This accident resulted in multiple fatalities, many of whom were from Assam’s Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency, leaving the region in mourning.
During his visit to Gelapukhuri, Sonowal extended his condolences and promised full government support to the bereaved families. “My deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured. In this time of grief, we stand firmly with those affected,” he said.
Sonowal has been closely monitoring the situation and communicated with the Chief Secretary of Assam, stressing the need for strong coordination with authorities in Arunachal Pradesh. He urged all relevant departments to collaborate effectively to ensure prompt rescue and relief efforts.
A coordinated rescue operation is currently in progress at the accident site, with response teams working diligently to expedite all necessary procedures.
In the wake of this tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives, sourced from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The Assam Government has also committed financial support to the affected families.
Describing the loss as “irreparable,” Sonowal expressed that the entire nation shares in the sorrow of the grieving families. He prayed for eternal peace for those who have passed and for strength for their loved ones to navigate this immense tragedy.
