Biswanath Police Capture 5 Rhino Poaching Suspects in Dramatic Raid
In a significant development in the fight against wildlife crime, the Biswanath Police apprehended five suspected poachers on Thursday who were allegedly planning to infiltrate Kaziranga National Park. The arrests occurred during a swift operation in Dathkola, under Gohpur, following a tip-off regarding the movement of a poaching gang.
The operation was led by Debarshi Choudhury, the Additional Superintendent of Police for Biswanath. His team successfully detained the suspects before they could execute their plans. The individuals arrested have been identified as Kusheshwar Doley, Utpal Pegu, Tamar Gayan, Binanda Tayeng, and Rupeshwar Doley. They reportedly come from various locations, including Baligaon in Lakhimpur, Arunachal Pradesh, as well as Gogamukh and Behali.
Authorities recovered an i10 vehicle, with the registration number AS 06N 5495, along with a Glamour motorcycle, which did not have a number plate. A sharp machete, believed to be intended for the poaching operation, was also seized. Officials suspect that this group is part of a larger network targeting the endangered rhinos of Kaziranga National Park.
