Six-Year-Old Boy in Critical Condition After Pitbull Attack in Delhi
A six-year-old boy sustained severe injuries after being allegedly attacked by a pitbull belonging to a neighbor in Prem Nagar, Northwest Delhi, on Sunday evening, according to local police. The boy’s condition remains critical, and the dog’s owner, Rajesh Pal, has been arrested following the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
The incident occurred when the child was playing outside his home. Officers reported that the pitbull, owned by Pal, who is 50 years old and a local tailor, unexpectedly lunged at the boy, resulting in severe injuries that left him bleeding on the street. The attack, which was reported to police at 5:38 PM via a PCR call, saw the child’s right ear bitten off, along with multiple deep wounds, before neighbors and family were able to intervene and pull the dog away.
The child’s parents immediately took him to BSA Hospital in Rohini for initial treatment, and later he was transported to Safdarjung Hospital, where he is currently receiving further medical care. Upon investigation, police learned that the pitbull had been living with Pal’s family for about a year and a half, brought home by his son Sachin, who is currently in prison on an attempted murder charge.
Police collected the medical report from the hospital and documented the father’s statement. Following this, they registered a case against Pal under the Indian Penal Code sections concerning negligent animal ownership and actions endangering public safety. Municipal authorities also intervened. A senior officer from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi stated that the dog had been permanently relocated to Sonadi Animal Care Centre, an animal birth control facility in Najafgarh, and will not be released back to the owner.
