Urgent Amber Alert: Charlotte Police Launch Heart-Pounding Search for 10-Month-Old Abducted by Family Member
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has initiated a critical investigation following the abduction of a 10-month-old girl, Nalaya Crew, on Saturday evening, November 15, 2025. A call reporting her disappearance was received at 7:01 p.m., prompting an immediate response from law enforcement officials.
According to CMPD, Nalaya was taken by a distant family member, identified as 19-year-old Michelle Hemphill, along with her boyfriend, 23-year-old Timothy Lee Smith Jr. Authorities are particularly concerned for the infant’s safety, given Hemphill’s reported homelessness and her inability to adequately care for the child. The couple was last seen getting into a blue minivan, which investigators believe Smith was driving, in the vicinity of the 6600 block of Monroe Road.
In response to the alarming situation, the CMPD has issued an Amber Alert, a critical tool designed to broadcast information quickly about abducted children. Officials are urging the public to stay vigilant and to contact 911 immediately if they see Hemphill, Smith, the minivan, or the infant.
The search efforts have provided detailed descriptions of those involved. Nalaya Crew is described as 2 feet tall and weighing approximately 20 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Michelle Hemphill stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs around 160 pounds, while Timothy Lee Smith Jr. is 5 feet 4 inches and also weighs about 160 pounds. Both adults have black hair and brown eyes, and they were last seen in the same area from which Nalaya was abducted.
The CMPD is appealing to the community for assistance, asking anyone with any information about Nalaya’s whereabouts or the suspects to contact them immediately. “Every minute counts in a situation like this,” a police spokesperson emphasized, underscoring the urgency of the search.
As the investigation unfolds, the community’s watchfulness is crucial in aiding the safe recovery of Nalaya Crew. The CMPD is committed to leveraging all available resources to locate the missing infant and ensure her return home safely.
This event highlights the vital role the public plays in responding to child abductions and emphasizes the importance of swift action. Community members are encouraged to be alert for any sightings and to report them right away, reiterating the collaborative effort necessary to address such urgent matters effectively.
For the latest updates on this case, residents can follow CMPD’s official channels and local news outlets. The search for Nalaya continues, and the urgency remains high as investigators work tirelessly on this critical issue.
