CM Sarma Unveils Drone-Aided Drug Delivery to Enhance Anti-Drug Efforts
Guwahati, Nov 16: Assam and other northeastern states have seen a significant increase in narcotic cases over the past few years, with drug traffickers employing modern tactics. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting that traffickers are now operating from remote locations, making drug delivery even more perilous.
“In Assam and Meghalaya, drug peddlers have been actively at work, marking a protracted struggle against them that is set to continue. Traffickers have adapted their methods, often using drones to transport narcotics,” he stated recently. The Chief Minister emphasized that addressing this serious drug problem requires increasing awareness among school and college students, who are particularly vulnerable to narcotics.
The Education Department in Assam is prioritizing anti-drug awareness initiatives. In Golaghat district, the Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator (CRCC) from the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan shared with the media that this year’s Children’s Day was celebrated with a robust awareness campaign.
At Nahorbari M V School in Golaghat, over 250 students and teachers participated in an anti-drug awareness session. Kakoty, a coordinator for the event, noted that the session focused on educating students about the harmful effects of substance abuse, aiming to empower them to make informed and healthy choices. The Children’s Day program included poster-making, interactive games, and discussions designed to illuminate the extensive repercussions of drug abuse on individuals, families, and communities.
“Children’s Day serves as a reminder that every child deserves a safe, healthy future. Raising awareness of drug abuse will assist them in making wise choices and refusing harmful habits,” Kakoty added.
Students engaged enthusiastically in activities expressing their commitment to a drug-free life. “I realized that saying no to drugs means saying yes to my dreams and my family,” stated Rahul Gogoi, a fifth-grade student.
A senior official from the Education Department mentioned that on special occasions, schools have been directed to organize anti-narcotics campaigns to educate students about the detrimental effects of drug use.
