Wokha District Establishes Silence Zone to Safeguard Migratory Amur Falcons
The Wokha district administration has declared the area a temporary silence zone in a significant effort to protect the globally recognized gathering of Amur Falcons. This decision was announced on Monday, reflecting the district’s commitment to ensuring the safe passage of these migratory birds.
An official order from ADC Renbomo Ezung underlined the need to minimize disturbances during the birds’ migration period, stating that the roosting site at Pangti would be restricted within a 3-kilometer radius. The Amur Falcons are safeguarded under the Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972 and the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), of which India is a signatory.
To uphold this protection, all activities that could disrupt the Amur Falcons have been strictly prohibited, effective immediately. This initiative highlights the district administration’s dedication to wildlife conservation and the critical importance of preserving essential habitats for migratory species.
