Three men have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old college student near Coimbatore International Airport, following a brief shootout on the night of November 2-3. The arrests occurred early Tuesday morning in Vellakinar, close to Thudiyalur. Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar confirmed that the police shot the suspects in the legs when they attempted to flee.
Identified as Guna alias Thavasi, Karupasamy alias Satheesh, and Kaleeswaran alias Karthik, the detained individuals were reportedly working in construction at Irugur, just about 4 kilometers from the isolated area near the airport where the crime allegedly took place. According to preliminary police reports, the assailants assaulted the victim’s boyfriend, aged 25, before perpetrating the attack on the student.
Following the shootout, the suspects were promptly transported to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for medical treatment. Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation, delving deeper into the circumstances surrounding this disturbing case.
