India’s GSAT-7R Satellite Launch: A Triumph for ISRO’s Innovations
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has marked a significant milestone in the nation’s history with the successful launch of the Indian Navy’s most advanced communication satellite, GSAT-7R. The launch took place at 5:26 PM from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
Weighing 4,400 kilograms, GSAT-7R is currently recognized as the heaviest communication satellite in India. It has been entirely indigenously developed, showcasing a prime example of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India).
The satellite was sent into space using ISRO’s most powerful rocket, known as the ‘BrahMos’ rocket. GSAT-7R will facilitate rapid and secure communication among the Indian Navy’s ships, aircraft, submarines, and maritime operation centers.
Equipped with advanced communication tools, the satellite will bolster maritime security, surveillance measures, and enhance the naval network’s capabilities. It will provide robust signal coverage and increased data transfer across significant portions of the Indian Ocean.
ISRO has stated that the primary objective of this mission is to enhance service capabilities in the maritime domain. This successful launch reaffirms ISRO’s tremendous capabilities in the field of space exploration.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that earlier this year, ISRO successfully launched Chandrayaan-3 aboard the LVM-3 rocket, making India the first country to land on the Moon’s southern pole.
