Five Candidates Pass Scrutiny for Upcoming Dampa Assembly Bypoll
All five candidates who filed nominations for the November 11 bypoll in the Dampa assembly constituency of Mizoram’s Mamit district have passed the scrutiny process, officials announced on Wednesday. Mizoram’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Lalrozama, confirmed that the nomination papers of Vanlalsailove from the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), R. Lalthangliana of the Mizo National Front (MNF), John Rotluangliana from the Congress party, Lalhmangaiha of the BJP, and K. Zahmingthanga of the People’s Conference were thoroughly checked by Returning Officer Malsawmzuala.
The deadline for candidates to withdraw from the race is Friday. Lalrozama added that preparations for the bypoll are proceeding smoothly, with the central government assigning three observers to ensure fair conduct during the election.
So far, no complaints regarding violations of the model code of conduct have been reported by any participating parties, Lalrozama noted. The bypoll was called following the death of MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo on July 21. Approximately 20,790 voters, including 10,185 women, are eligible to participate in this upcoming election.
