Gangtok: Biswas Timshina, known as BT Kancha from Sikkim, has generated significant attention in Nepal due to his screenplay for the hit Nepali film “Jerry On Top.” Born to Lila Sharma and Shiva Shanker Timshina in Lingmoo, South Sikkim, he attended Holy Cross School in Tadong before pursuing engineering studies in Salem, South India. However, his passion for storytelling ultimately guided him toward a career in screenwriting.
Timshina began his writing journey in 2017 with “Pahun,” a film produced by Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, filmed in Sikkim. He then relocated to Mumbai, where he trained under renowned filmmakers Abbas and Paakhi Tyrewala. Over three years, he worked as a junior writer across various production houses but returned home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was during this time that acclaimed Nepali director Hem Raj BC contacted him to create the sequel to “Jerry.” The director had initially discovered Biswas through his YouTube channel, where he had humorously critiqued the original “Jerry.” Instead of being offended, Hem Raj valued Biswas’s insights and sought a collaboration.
Biswas moved to Kathmandu to work on the screenplay for “Jerry On Top,” a film that took three years to complete due to its ambitious scope and high production values. Released on October 17, 2025, the film has resonated deeply with audiences in Nepal, who have praised its heartfelt narrative, stunning visuals, and emotional depth. Many viewers have left theaters moved to tears by its powerful story.
The film features popular actors Anmol KC, Bhuwan KC, Jassita Gurung, Aanchal Sharma, and Kedra Ghimire, directed by Suyog Gurung and produced by Saroj Neopaney. Both critics and audiences have applauded Timshina’s writing for its seamless narrative and genuine emotional expression.
This success is not only a personal achievement for Biswas and his family but also a proud moment for the South Sikkim region, highlighting yet another young talent from Sikkim who is making waves on the international cinematic stage.
