Ziro Honour Run: A Heartfelt Tribute to 1962 War Heroes Unites All
On October 19, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Lower Subansiri District Administration and local communities, hosted the “Ziro Honour Run” to commemorate the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1962 Indo-China War. The event attracted over 800 participants, including Army personnel, Indian Air Force members, ITBP officers, NCC cadets, students, and civilians from Arunachal Pradesh and beyond. The run included competitive distances of 21 km and 10 km, along with a 5 km open category aimed at promoting fitness and encouraging public involvement.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K. T. Parnaik (Retd) served as the chief guest, officially starting the run amidst a wave of patriotic fervor. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Indian Army, state administration, and various community organizations, all uniting to honor the event’s significance.
Sponsored by the State Bank of India (SBI) and Pramerica, the run highlighted their commitment to fostering national pride and social responsibility. While the primary goal was to pay tribute to fallen heroes, the Ziro Honour Run also sought to enhance civil-military relations, nurture a sense of patriotism, and promote tourism in the scenic Ziro Valley. Organizers expressed enthusiasm over the tremendous turnout, indicating that they plan to make this an annual event on the region’s calendar.
