Assam University Unveils Statue and Auditorium to Honor Zubeen Garg
Assam University has announced plans to honor the late music legend Zubeen Garg by naming its upcoming 500-seat auditorium after him and installing a statue in his memory. This decision was made during the university’s Executive Council’s 176th meeting.
The auditorium, currently under construction and funded by the state government, is set to be officially dedicated to Zubeen Garg upon its completion. The council approved the statue installation in front of the auditorium as a tribute to his significant contributions to Assamese music and culture.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant has reached out to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for additional financial assistance to accelerate the project’s timeline.
In a related initiative, the Diphu Campus of Assam University will also name its newly built conference hall after Zubeen Garg. Registrar Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath remarked, “This is a heartfelt tribute to the heartthrob of Assam, whose music and humanitarian spirit touched millions.”
