NSUI Triumphs in B. Borooah College Students’ Union Election Results!
The B. Borooah College Students’ Union (BBCSU) Election for the 2025-26 term concluded with a notable victory for the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), which captured major positions including President, General Secretary, and Assistant General Secretary. Independent and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU)-backed candidates also achieved significant wins in the election held in Guwahati.
According to official results released on Friday, Dharani Singh was elected as President, receiving 1,264 votes, while her closest competitor, Jumon Dutta, garnered only 579 votes. For the Vice President role, independent candidate Mrinmoy Rajbongshi triumphed with 641 votes, narrowly surpassing competitors Bishal Malakar and Ayan Ray.
In the General Secretary race, Krish Pawe from the NSUI claimed victory with 785 votes, defeating Pospendra Nath Saikia of the AASU. Akshita Sharma from NSUI also succeeded in securing the Assistant General Secretary position with a striking 1,251 votes. Additionally, Mridusmita Kakati from NSUI was elected as Music and Fine Arts Secretary, while Rima Das from AASU triumphed as Cultural Secretary against Akangksha Chetri.
In the sports categories, Pritam Boro won the Major Games Secretary position by beating Jitumani Kalita, while Srimanta Talukdar was elected unopposed as Minor Games Secretary. The ABVP did not secure any positions this year. The NSUI and AASU divided the prominent portfolios between themselves, and independent candidates displayed strong performances in select areas.
The elections saw a high level of student engagement, with campaigns focusing on issues such as hygiene, transparency, and campus development. During her campaign, President-elect Dharani Singh emphasized the need for better sanitation and the restoration of the college’s health center. She stated, “Earlier, our college had a health center, but it was replaced with a uniform cell. I think reinstating it is important. The sanitation in the washrooms is terrible; students deserve better facilities. I want to raise these issues sincerely.”
Vice President-elect Mrinmoy Rajbongshi referred to his victory as a “mandate for change” and committed to enhancing communication between the student body and the administration. “Students have put their trust in me. I will work to bridge the gap between the union and the authorities, ensuring accountability and swift action on student concerns,” he expressed.
General Secretary Krish Pawe vowed to prioritize transparency and ensure that student demands are addressed. “We often see proposals made after elections never get implemented. I want to ensure that student voices translate into visible change,” he said.
Following the announcement of the results, the campus atmosphere turned festive, with supporters celebrating by cheering, waving flags, and chanting slogans. Principal and Election Officer Prof. Satyendra Nath Barman praised the orderly conduct of the elections, emphasizing that the process was “peaceful, transparent, and democratic.”
With the new student leadership in place, B. Borooah College anticipates a term emphasizing inclusive student welfare, improved facilities, and collaborative decision-making.
