National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) chairperson Kishor Makwana visited Karur on October 3, 2025, to meet with families impacted by the tragic stampede that occurred on September 27. The incident, which took place during a public meeting led by actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay, resulted in the loss of 41 lives.
Makwana’s visit included stops at several affected areas, such as Emoor Pudur, Uppidamangalam, and Aravakurichi, where he spoke directly with ten grieving families. His purpose was not only to offer condolences but also to gather firsthand accounts of the tragedy. Following his visits, Makwana convened a review meeting with District Collector M. Thangavel and other senior officials at the Collectorate.
In a statement to reporters, Makwana emphasized the Commission’s urgency in understanding the circumstances surrounding the stampede. “We have requested a comprehensive report from the district administration,” he said. He further elaborated that the NCSC would initiate its own investigation based on the findings of this report.
Highlighting the socio-economic status of the affected families, Makwana acknowledged that many of them come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. “We have urged the State government to extend appropriate assistance, including support for employment opportunities,” he noted. This aim reflects the NCSC’s commitment to ensuring that those impacted receive necessary resources and support in the aftermath of the tragedy.
