In a shocking development, Assamese artist Prasenjit Lahon has made serious allegations against musician Shekharjyoti Goswami and others during a Facebook Live session. He is calling for a thorough investigation into alleged misconduct surrounding the late music icon Zubeen Garg’s professional circle. Lahon stated that current investigations have identified Zubeen Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, and entrepreneur Shyamkanu Mahanta as key figures in the controversy. Both were reportedly arrested on the day of Zubeen’s Adyosradha ceremony in Jorhat, along with Amritprabha Mahanta and Shekharjyoti Goswami, according to Lahon.
Lahon elaborated on his interactions with those involved, noting that he had never met Amritprabha Mahanta, whom he described as “not appearing to be an artist.” However, he confirmed having spoken with Shekharjyoti Goswami multiple times, both in person and over the phone, concerning work matters. He accused Goswami, who worked as a recordist at Zubeen Garg’s studio, of extorting between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 from each producer for every song recorded, presenting these fees as travel charges for recording services.
Highlighting Zubeen Garg’s dedication to music, Lahon shared that the singer managed to record five to six songs a day even while facing health issues. He recounted an impressive feat from 2005, where Zubeen allegedly recorded 36 songs in a single day at DCG Studio in Jorhat-a remarkable achievement that might have qualified for the Guinness Book of World Records if properly documented.
Lahon also shared his personal experience, revealing that he had recorded five songs with lyricist Arup Dutta last year, after which the production responsibilities were passed to Goswami. However, he claimed that Shekharjyoti became unresponsive, frequently delaying recording sessions and offering excuses for his absence, such as illness or unavailability. Lahon expressed concern that if Zubeen hadn’t collaborated with Shekharjyoti, he could have recorded as many as one lakh songs by now, alleging that the recordist operated a business and engaged in brokerage while pretending to be involved in music recording.
In his closing remarks, Prasenjit Lahon urged the Assam government to conduct a fair and transparent investigation into the alleged irregularities connected to Zubeen Garg’s professional and personal circles, emphasizing that the late artist’s legacy deserves justice and protection from exploitation.
