Itanagar, Sep 27: In a remarkable achievement, the soldiers of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps successfully reached the summit of Mount Gorichen, which stands at 6,488 meters, making it the highest climbable peak in Arunachal Pradesh. This milestone, announced by officials on Saturday, took place on September 19 and reflects the soldiers’ discipline, endurance, and unwavering spirit in the challenging terrains of the Eastern Himalayas.

Defence spokesman Lt Col Mahendra Rawat emphasized that the expedition aimed to promote adventure and resilience while underscoring the Army’s commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the region. Facing fierce winds, icy ridges, and thin air at high altitudes, the team demonstrated exceptional teamwork and determination, ultimately triumphing atop the ‘Roof of Arunachal.’

In addition to achieving the summit, the soldiers conducted a cleanliness drive along their route, reinforcing the Army’s dedication to environmental stewardship. This initiative highlighted the importance of sustainable mountaineering practices and served as a reminder of the responsibility to protect India’s pristine Himalayan ecosystems.

Lieutenant General Abhijjit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of the Spear Corps, congratulated the team on their accomplishment. He stated, “This expedition reflects the Indian Army’s grit and resilience. Our soldiers not only conquered the formidable heights of Gorichen but also set an example in respecting and preserving the environment. It is a matter of immense pride for the Spear Corps and the Indian Army.”

The Mount Gorichen expedition symbolizes military excellence while promoting ecological responsibility. It reinforces the Indian Army’s ethos of courage, determination, and commitment to service, both to the nation and the natural heritage of the Himalayas, according to the Defence PRO.

In another initiative, the Spear Corps recently concluded a two-week Yoga training program for its combatants at Along in Arunachal Pradesh. Conducted from September 15 to 27, the program was designed to enhance the soldiers’ holistic well-being by merging physical endurance with mental resilience through the discipline of Yoga.

Led by trained instructors, the sessions were tailored to meet the specific physical and psychological demands faced by soldiers navigating challenging terrains and climatic conditions. Beyond boosting physical fitness, this initiative aimed to cultivate calmness of mind, emotional balance, and spiritual strength-qualities essential for effective soldiering under operational stress.

This well-organized program reflects the Indian Army’s commitment to adopting holistic fitness measures in line with the national vision of promoting Yoga as a way of life. The conclusion of this training marks another step in the Spear Corps’ mission to develop its warriors not only as defenders of the nation but as well-rounded individuals ready to tackle challenges with composure and strength.
