Exciting Upgrades: CM Unveils Enhanced Mangan Public Ground Facilities
MANGAN, (IPR): In a significant boost to the sporting culture of the district, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay inaugurated a newly constructed youth hostel-cum-gym and the upgraded Mangan Public Ground today. Upon his arrival, the Chief Minister was warmly welcomed by various officials, including the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Raju Basnet; Area MLA Samdup Lepcha; Minister for Forest and Environment PintsoNamgyal Lepcha; and other dignitaries.
Following a ceremonial guard of honor, the Chief Minister unveiled the plaque for the youth hostel-cum-gym, cut the ribbon, and inspected the new facilities. The secretary and chief engineer provided the Chief Minister with details about the project, emphasizing the amenities designed to benefit the youth in the region.
The new hostel-cum-gym is equipped with modern gym equipment and spacious facilities for both boys and girls, promoting health and fitness. It features a total area of 249 square meters, with two 30-bedded units on the ground floor, a common dining and kitchen area, office space, gym units, warden rooms, and separate washrooms for boys and girls.
On the first floor, each unit contains an instructor’s room with an attached toilet, an equipment room, a bathroom, and two changing rooms. Additionally, there are gym halls measuring 17.5 meters by 14.7 meters for both genders.
After inaugurating the hostel and gym, the Chief Minister visited the upgraded Mangan Public Ground, where he symbolically kicked off a football to celebrate the ground’s reopening. A demonstration drill by local players showcased the increasing enthusiasm among youth and highlighted the region’s burgeoning sporting culture.
The refurbished playground has a capacity of around 4,000 spectators and includes stadium galleries, pavilion seating, and hillside viewing areas. The football ground has been revamped to comply with 11-side tournament standards, measuring 107 meters by 64 meters, with a play area of 100 meters by 59 meters.
The approach road spans 40 meters in length and 6 meters in width, while a diversion road extends 234 meters with the same width. Additionally, a 229-meter-long RCC drain has been constructed.
During the event, the Chief Minister also engaged in an interactive session with athletes and youth representatives, encouraging them to take full advantage of the newly developed facilities.
