Exciting News: Breeze Airways Set to Launch First International Flights, Soaring into New Destinations!
Breeze Airways, the startup airline founded by JetBlue’s David Neeleman, is gearing up to expand its horizons by launching international flights early next year. As the airline approaches its fifth anniversary, it aims to attract sun-seeking travelers with new seasonal routes that begin on January 10, starting with a Saturday-only service from Norfolk, Virginia, to Cancun, Mexico. Following closely, roundtrip flights between Charleston, South Carolina, and Cancun commence on January 17, also on Saturdays.
Additional routes include Saturday flights from New Orleans to Cancun starting February 7 and from Providence, Rhode Island, a week later. March will see Breeze introducing Thursday and Saturday services from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Montego Bay, Jamaica, as well as Wednesday and Saturday flights to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Notably, flights from Tampa, Florida, to Montego Bay are set to begin on February 11.
Breeze has made significant strides since its launch amid the pandemic in May 2021. Currently servicing 81 cities with a total of 291 nonstop routes, the airline claims to be the only carrier operating in 83% of these markets. Lukas Johnson, Breeze’s Chief Commercial Officer, noted that securing international flight certification has been a significant endeavor, as it is the first sizable U.S. passenger airline to achieve this milestone since Virgin America was acquired by Alaska Airlines in 2016.
The airline maintains its strategy of offering flights using Airbus A220-300 aircraft to cities with little to no existing competition, and Johnson expressed optimism about the new routes, stating, “We feel really confident that it’s going to be a great guest response.” Fares for the upcoming international routes are competitively priced, starting as low as $99 one way. Johnson added that there has been strong demand for premium-class seating, with a notable number of passengers choosing these upgraded options on return trips.
As Breeze Airways prepares to make its international debut, it continues to focus on its unique market position and streamlined business model. With travelers increasingly seeking new destinations, the airline is well-positioned to meet growing demand. This expansion marks an exciting chapter for Breeze, underscoring its commitment to affordable yet quality air travel.
As the airline industry adapts in a post-pandemic world, Breeze Airways is poised to carve out a niche in the competitive international travel market while offering travelers new opportunities for adventure in warmer destinations.
