Call for an Impartial Investigation into Jubin’s Untimely Death
Public outrage in Assam remains strong following the mysterious death of beloved singer Zubin Garg in Singapore. The state government has announced an investigation, and the Assam Citizens’ Conference is demanding an impartial inquiry into his death.
In a statement shared with the media, the Assam Citizens’ Conference expressed deep sorrow at the sudden and untimely loss of Zubin Garg. Today, on the day of his funeral, they pay their respects to his sacred memory and extend heartfelt condolences to his grieving family. The love and admiration shared for Zubin by people across all sections of Assam will forever mark a rare chapter in the state’s history. His passing feels surreal, and without the genuine affection people held for him, such an impact would not have been possible.
While some labeled Zubin’s songs as mere romantic fantasies of youth, they were, in reality, a rebellion against the contemporary struggles of despair, stagnation, and a lack of opportunities. His music often reflected the disillusionment of the younger generation, resonating deeply with their lives and emotions.
Zubin was known for his innocent, child-like nature that endeared him to many. He opposed political violence and was never communal in his views. He proudly declared, “I have no religion, no race; I am Kanchenjunga.” There were no seeds of division in his songs; he embodied the spirit of unity in Assam. His death has ignited a peaceful longing for harmony in a state often marred by sectarian toxicity.
His legacy reminds us that he united people even in death. It is now our duty to spread that message throughout Assam, making our love for Zubin meaningful. Discussions are underway for the construction of a memorial dedicated to him, which is essential. However, it must reflect the essence of Zubin’s music and his message of unity.
Tragically, Zubin’s life was a stark reminder of how such a brilliant talent and cultural asset was overshadowed by a decaying system of values and a self-serving commercial nexus that had surrounded him. Due to the negligence of these interests, we have lost someone as precious as Zubin far too soon and in a foreign land. Therefore, we demand an unbiased investigation into his death. This inquiry should involve an upright and fearless former police chief, a high court judge, a criminal expert, and a high court advocate-individuals not aligned with governmental interests. Only such an investigation will shed light on the circumstances surrounding Zubin’s death; otherwise, the abrupt and unexpected loss will remain a haunting memory for the people of Assam.
On behalf of the Assam Citizens’ Conference,
Hiren Gohain, Harekrishna Deka, Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, Paresh Malakar, Abdul Mannan, Shantanu Burthakur.
