Manipur police and security forces have ramped up their operations against militant activities, resulting in several arrests and the seizure of weapons and narcotics over the last two days. On September 20, police apprehended 62-year-old Adhikarimayum Ramkumar Sharma, also known as Raikumar or Kumar, in Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East. Sharma is an active member of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) and was arrested at the Kongba Laishram Leikai Crossing under the jurisdiction of Porompat police station. Authorities confiscated a mobile phone from him during the arrest.
The day before, security forces took two active members of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) into custody for allegedly extorting residents, shopkeepers, and local institutions in the Tronglaobi area of Bishnupur district. The arrested individuals were identified as 20-year-old Thokchom Manimatum Singh from Ningthoukhong Mayai Leikai and 24-year-old Laishram Premsagar Singh from Ningthoukhong Mathak Leikai. Two mobile phones and several SIM cards were seized from their possession.
On the same day, police arrested 33-year-old Phijam Chetanjit Singh from Takyel Kolom Leikai, Yurembam Awang Leikai, under the Patsoi police station. During this operation, authorities recovered an SLR rifle with two magazines and various rounds of ammunition, including 46 rounds of 7.62 mm SLR ammunition, 30 rounds of 5.56 mm INSAS ammunition, 17 rounds of .303 ammunition, as well as one 7.62 mm AK round and one 5.56 mm Amogh round. A mobile phone was also taken into custody.
In Jiribam district, security forces discovered 21 soap cases containing approximately 240 grams of suspected brown sugar along a roadside near the IVR of Jatrapur village under the Borobekra police station.
Authorities underscore that these efforts are part of a broader initiative to combat militant activities and uphold law and order throughout the state.
