Join the Sewa Pakhwada Initiative: Unite for Service in Sikkim!
GANGTOK, (IPR): The Sewa Pakhwada initiative, part of a nationwide observance commemorating the 75th birth anniversary of the Prime Minister, took place today in Gangtok. The event was honored by Governor Om Prakash Mathur as the chief guest and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang as the guest of honor. During the program, a video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conducted, where he extended his greetings and urged citizens to actively engage in the missions of cleanliness, health, and social welfare.
In his address, Governor Mathur conveyed birthday wishes to the Prime Minister and praised his visionary leadership that has led to significant progress across various sectors. He highlighted several key initiatives led by the Prime Minister that have brought transformative change, urging all attendees to uphold the pledge taken during the event. Mathur called upon every citizen to contribute to strengthening the nation and advancing its development.
Chief Minister Tamang also conveyed his greetings to the Prime Minister on this milestone birthday on behalf of the Government and the people of Sikkim. He shared that the State will celebrate Sewa Pakhwada over the next 15 days, reflecting a spirit of service and collective responsibility. Tamang underscored the forward-thinking initiatives of the Prime Minister and reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to supporting his vision across various development sectors. He outlined planned activities for the Sewa Pakhwada and emphasized unity and collaboration under the banner of ‘Team Sikkim.’ Additionally, he extended warm regards for the auspicious occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti.
Chief Secretary R Telang presented an overview of the program, noting that celebrations would commence today and continue until October 2. He emphasized the Prime Minister’s vision of positioning India on the global stage, alongside outlining the State government’s initiatives across various sectors. Telang provided a summary of the day’s proceedings and described upcoming activities as part of the 8th Poshan Maah.
In a welcome address, Normit Lepcha, Secretary of the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan department, outlined the program’s objectives, highlighting its importance in promoting social welfare, child development, and community empowerment.
At the start of the event, the Governor and Chief Minister flagged off 16 Resource Recovery Vehicles and 22 vehicles from the Transport department, a significant advancement for the State’s infrastructure and services. The dignitaries then visited Utsav Plaza Swarna Jayanti Maitreya Manjari, where a specially designed QR code entry system was launched. In commemoration of the Prime Minister’s birthday, 75 butter lamps were lit to symbolize reverence, peace, and collective goodwill.
Following this, the Culture department presented a welcome dance and song. The Governor also formally announced the rollout of Swachhata Hi Sewa, 2025, and administered the Swachhata Pledge to the attendees.
As part of the celebrations recognizing the Prime Minister’s 75th birthday, a special distribution program offered benefits to 75 beneficiaries across various departments. This was succeeded by a series of releases and virtual inaugurations of key projects and products from multiple departments.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Krishna Rai, members of the council of ministers, MPs, MLAs, former legislators, advisors, and heads of departments. The vote of thanks was proposed by Benu Gurung, secretary (Protocol) of the Home department.
