As part of this initiative, $25 billion was mobilized, enabling life-saving assistance for 116 million individuals across 77 nations and territories. This funding supported vital programs in regions such as the Horn of Africa, Ukraine, Yemen, and areas struck by natural disasters, including the earthquakes in Vanuatu and droughts in Southern and Eastern Africa.
However, this year also marked the deadliest on record for UN staff and humanitarian workers, tragically resulting in the deaths of 373 aid workers, primarily from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). These heroes operated under perilous conditions in Gaza. Guterres paid tribute to their sacrifice, reiterating the UN’s steadfast commitment to the world’s most vulnerable populations.

The organization also supported peace talks and state-building initiatives, with the Peacebuilding Fund allocating over $116 million to bolster national peace plans across 32 countries, emphasizing gender equality.
The recent 2024 Summit of the Future represented a pivotal moment for multilateralism, where world leaders ratified the Pact for the Future. This landmark agreement seeks to revitalize international cooperation, prioritize conflict prevention, push for climate action, and reform global governance, including the Security Council. The Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations were introduced as extensions of the Pact, aiming for a more inclusive digital future.
