Exciting New Roles: Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma’s Ministerial Allocations
Shillong: Following a cabinet reshuffle, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma distributed portfolios to newly inducted ministers on Wednesday as part of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA-II) government.
Metbah Lyngdoh, the chief of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has taken charge of the Power, Water Resources, and Taxation departments. His party colleague Lahkmen Rymbui will oversee Education, Revenue, and Disaster Management. Brening A. Sangma has been assigned responsibilities for Excise and Border Area Development, while former deputy speaker Timothy D. Shira has been appointed to handle Tourism and Agriculture.
Wailadmiki Shylla will manage Sports and Youth Affairs along with Health and Family Welfare. Sosthenes Sohtun has taken over Community and Rural Development, as well as the General Administration Department. BJP legislator Sanbor Shullai, who has replaced A.L. Hek in the cabinet, will oversee Animal Husbandry and Veterinary affairs, Fisheries, Printing and Stationery, and Secretariat Administration. Methodius Dkhar, from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party, has been given the portfolio for Food and Civil Supplies.
The reshuffle was significant, as eight MLAs were sworn in, seven of whom are first-time ministers, following the resignation of eight incumbents. Political observers note that this reshuffle is expected to realign the power dynamics within the MDA coalition and provide fresh faces with substantial roles in vital departments.
This restructuring reflects an effort to rejuvenate governance and engage new leadership in key areas that impact the state.
