Unstoppable Downpour Hits Bhadradri Kothagudem: 16 Gates of Taliperu Reservoir Lifted Amidst Nature’s Fury!
In a recent display of devotion, the priest at the Vana Durga Bhavani temple in Edupayala conducted evening prayers for the Manjeera River, which has experienced significant flooding for the last 18 days due to relentless rainfall. This somber ritual took place in Nagasanpalli, located in the Papannapet mandal of Medak district, highlighting the ongoing impact of extreme weather conditions in the region.
On Monday morning, heavy rain battered several areas within the Bhadradri Kothagudem district, particularly affecting Mulakalapalli, Aswaraopet, and Dammapeta mandals. The torrential downpour caused numerous streams to overflow, resulting in disrupted vehicular movement across multiple locations. In Mulakalapalli mandal, the Pamuleru stream rose sharply, flooding a culvert and blocking traffic between Chaparalapalli and Madharam, a significant route in the area. Furthermore, a low-level causeway near Vagoddugudem village was submerged, isolating over a dozen nearby villages for several hours.
Despite the Godavari River’s water levels dropping in Bhadrachalam by Monday evening, its tributary, the Taliperu River, remained vigorous. Continuous inflows from surrounding catchment areas have kept the river flowing robustly, especially evident at Pedamidisileru village in Charla mandal throughout the day. By 7 p.m. on Monday, the Godavari’s water level slightly decreased but remained above the first flood warning threshold of 43 feet.
In response to the rising water levels, the authorities lifted 16 crest gates of the Taliperu reservoir on Monday to a height of about three feet. At this time, the discharge of floodwater into the river was recorded at approximately 29,523 cusecs. This proactive management illustrates the efforts in place to mitigate the flooding’s adverse effects on local communities.
As heavy rains continue to impact daily life, residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather forecasts and heed warnings from local authorities to ensure their safety. This situation underscores the severe weather challenges facing Telangana, where the balance between nature and infrastructure is being tested.
With many parts of the state grappling with the repercussions of heavy rainfall, the resilience of Telangana’s communities is being put to the test. Continued vigilance and preparation are crucial as meteorologists predict that these weather patterns may persist, potentially causing further disruptions.
As we face the consequences of extreme weather events, the plight of the people residing near these rivers and the ongoing challenges posed by heavy rainfall remind us of the intricate relationship between nature and society in Telangana.
