Justice Served: Coimbatore Mahila Court Sentences Two Men to Life Terms in Shocking Murder Cases
The Mahila Court in Coimbatore has sentenced two men to life imprisonment in separate murder cases, highlighting the issue of domestic violence and personal disputes that can lead to tragic outcomes.
In a notable first case, Judge V. Sundararaj handed down a life sentence to M. Dharmaraj, 46, from Ramanathapuram district, for the brutal murder of his wife, Uma, a 38-year-old woman with disabilities. The incident occurred near Sulur on May 10, 2024. According to the prosecution, Dharmaraj returned home that night after a drinking spree, visibly upset that his wife had not answered his calls. Fueled by alcohol, he attacked Uma with a plastic pipe and violently struck her head against a cement post. The devastating injuries she sustained ultimately resulted in her death. Following the incident, Dharmaraj was apprehended by the Sulthanpet police. The court found him guilty of murder and imposed a fine of ₹500 in addition to the life sentence. Prosecutor B. Jisha represented the case.
In a separate ruling, the Mahila Court also sentenced A. Pechimuthu, 64, from Madukkarai, to life imprisonment for the 2019 murder of S. Vasanthakumari, a 41-year-old woman with whom he was romantically involved. The police reported that Pechimuthu took Vasanthakumari’s life after learning that she was forming a friendship with another man. In a fit of rage, he killed her, leading to his arrest by the local authorities. The court, in this case, similarly imposed a fine of ₹500.
These verdicts come at a time when discussions of domestic violence are increasingly prevalent in society, underscoring the urgent need for awareness and preventive measures. Both cases reflect not only personal tragedies but also broader societal issues regarding relationships and violence.
