Shocking Dowry Death in Noida: 5 Heart-Wrenching Details of a Gruesome Tragedy
The tragic case of Nikki, a 28-year-old woman allegedly set on fire by her husband and in-laws over a dowry demand of ₹35 lakh, has sent shockwaves through Sirsa village, sparking widespread protests calling for justice. Nikki succumbed to her injuries while being transferred from Fortis Hospital in Noida to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, according to police reports.
Nikki married Vipin Bhati in December 2016, a union that began without the exchange of any dowry. However, troubling revelations indicate that demands for a significant sum were made soon after the marriage. Vipin, now in police custody, is joined by his father, Satyaveer Bhati, and brother, Rohit Bhati, who remain at large. The FIR also implicates Nikki’s mother-in-law, Daya.
Among the most heart-wrenching details is the testimony of Nikki’s six-year-old son, who witnessed the horrifying incident. In a chilling account, he described, “Meri mumma ke upar kuch dala, fir unko chanta mara fir lighter se aag laga di” (they poured something on my mother, slapped her, and set her ablaze with a lighter). This account underscores the heinous nature of the crime and the trauma inflicted on the young child.
Two disturbing videos of the incident are circulating on social media, fueling outrage. One clip shows Nikki being assaulted and dragged by her hair, while another shows her struggling down the stairs after the horrific attack. Reportedly recorded by Nikki’s elder sister, Kanchan, who is also married into the same family, these videos have intensified public outcry.
Kanchan claims her sister endured years of dowry-related abuse, with family members allegedly torturing them. “They hit her in her neck and head, threw acid, and carried out atrocities against us,” she revealed. Adding to the nightmare, an Instagram post by Vipin surfaced after Nikki’s death, implying she had taken her own life. “Why did you leave me? The world is calling me a killer, Nikki,” read the post, accompanied by a video of the couple smiling. Authorities view this as an attempt to misdirect blame.
Amid these allegations, Kanchan disclosed that the in-laws aimed to drive Nikki away to facilitate Vipin’s remarriage. She stated, “They wanted my sister gone… they were planning his second marriage,” further illustrating the insidious environment Nikki faced.
In response to the public outcry, Greater Noida ADCP Sudhir Kumar confirmed that a murder case has been registered against the accused under various charges, including murder and criminal conspiracy. Efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding relatives as protesters fill the streets of Sirsa, demanding swift justice with chants of “Justice for Nikki.”
This heartbreaking episode is a stark reminder of the pervasive issue of dowry violence in Uttar Pradesh, and the community’s response signals a growing demand for accountability and change.
