Inspiring Triumph: Two Girls from Churachandpur Relief Camps Ace NEET
Churachandpur, August 21: In a remarkable story of resilience, two young girls from relief camps in Churachandpur district have successfully cleared the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). Namneihing Haokip and Hatneineng have emerged as symbols of hope for internally displaced people (IDPs) in the area, demonstrating that perseverance can transform adversity into achievement.
Currently residing in the Ngaloi Relief Camp near Songpi, Namneihing shared the difficult journey her family has faced. She described their experience as a “long and horrible story,” noting that life in the relief center was incredibly tough. “At first, I wanted to give up, but then I met the National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation (NIEDO). They conduct an entrance exam, and those who pass receive free coaching and support,” she told The Assam Tribune.
Along with her six siblings, Namneihing was displaced from their home in L Thingangfai village, Chandel district, due to escalating conflict. “Our home was burnt down. My parents used to work in the fields, but now we have no work. As children, my siblings and I couldn’t help them much,” she recalled. Despite these hardships, conditions in the relief camp have reportedly improved recently.
Her reaction to her NEET success was one of pure joy. “I couldn’t believe it at first. Some seniors told me, and then I just went and hugged my father in excitement. The result was declared on 15th August,” she said. Namneihing has been accepted into the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), and plans are in place for her to move to Guwahati for her studies.
On August 20, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla recognized the girls for their outstanding accomplishments during his visit to Churachandpur. Namneihing described the meeting as a significant moment for her. “It was incredible. When he started speaking, I just stayed silent-I was in awe,” she added.
Her message to fellow young people in relief camps is both powerful and optimistic: “This phase in life is temporary. Life doesn’t end in relief camps. We need to have a big heart and trust in God. In due course of time, things will change.” Through their courage, perseverance, and faith, Namneihing and Hatneineng exemplify how determination can yield triumphs, even in the most challenging circumstances.
