India Achieves Milestone with Successful Agni 5 Missile Test-Fire
GUWAHATI: On August 20, India successfully test-fired the Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile ‘Agni 5’ from the Integrated Test Range located in Chandipur, Odisha. The launch, conducted under the Strategic Forces Command, demonstrated successful validation of all operational and technical parameters, as stated by the Defence Ministry.
The Agni 5 is an advanced variant of India’s intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), boasting a range exceeding 7,000 kilometers. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has plans to enhance the missile’s capabilities further, with upgrades aimed at extending its range to 7,500 kilometers.
Earlier this year, India conducted its inaugural flight test of the Agni-5 missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. This innovative feature enables a single missile to deploy multiple nuclear warheads to hit separate targets, enhancing India’s strategic deterrence capabilities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commended DRDO scientists for their contributions in elevating the nation’s missile technology and capabilities. Such advancements highlight India’s commitment to maintaining a robust defense posture in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.
