Urgent: Foiled Attack from Pakistan Sparks Security Concerns
An Indian Army soldier was killed while thwarting an infiltration attempt by Pakistani terrorists near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri, Baramulla, during the night of August 12–13. The incident occurred when Indian troops responded promptly to the infiltration at Tikka Post in the Uri sector, effectively foiling the attackers’ efforts. Initially, there were reports suggesting that the infiltration was carried out by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT). However, the Indian Army later clarified that the operation did not involve BAT, and they are currently verifying further details.
During the exchange of fire, Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar sustained fatal injuries while defending his position. The Chinar Corps expressed deep regret over his loss, acknowledging his bravery. In a message posted on social media platform X, they praised his courage and extended condolences to his family. General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, also paid tribute to Sepoy Kumar’s supreme sacrifice, emphasizing the Army’s solidarity with his bereaved family.
Earlier reports indicating that Pakistan’s BAT was involved in the attack are being reassessed. Army sources conveyed to CNN-News18 that they are still determining the specifics of the incident and believe that no involvement from BAT is likely. The Border Action Team is known as a special operations unit of the Pakistan Army, comprising specially trained soldiers and militants from groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Their primary mission typically includes conducting cross-border raids and ambushes on Indian positions along the LoC.
Following the infiltration attempt, security forces launched a large-scale cordon and search operation to locate any infiltrators who may have retreated into the darkness.
