The Agartala Smart City Limited is undertaking projects worth over Rs 844 crores, with plans to complete crucial stormwater drainage and road work before this year’s Durga Puja festival. According to Dr. Shailesh, the CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited, the organization has successfully completed a total of 65 projects that aim to address the significant issues of waterlogging and flooding in the city.

To mitigate these challenges, the company initiated 24 projects with an investment of Rs 64.6 crores, which included the installation of six new flood pumps. Furthermore, all stormwater drains have been remodeled for easier maintenance and cleaning. Dr. Shailesh also mentioned that super sucker machines and desilting equipment have been provided to the Agartala Municipal Corporation for annual cleaning.

In an effort to ensure a consistent water supply during adverse weather conditions, all flood pump stations are now equipped with double feeder water supplies. Additionally, six diesel-driven self-priming high-power pumps have been installed to guarantee water flow even during power outages. “While most cities experience waterlogging with just 50 mm to 100 mm of rainfall, Agartala uniquely monitors real-time water accumulation through CCTV at the Integrated Command Control Center, ensuring 24/7 oversight,” Dr. Shailesh explained. This robust system has significantly reduced waterlogging in the city.

Apart from addressing flooding, the Tripura government has assigned additional projects worth Rs 844 crores to Agartala Smart City Limited under various initiatives. The ADB Project includes the construction of 26 km of new roadway and five sewage treatment plants to process drainage water. Currently, 80% of the Hoara River Development Project has been completed, and efforts are ongoing to create an extensive smart road network spanning 18 key routes. Presently, 23 km of new road and 46 km of drains are under construction, with 31 km of drains already finished. The completion of stormwater drainage and road work is anticipated ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.
